Latest Translation Technologies
Typewriters and bulky dictionaries are long past
Translators nowadays cannot do without powerful computers, broadband Internet connection, extensive language corpora, electronic dictionaries, and – above all – certainly not without computer-aided translation (CAT) tools. SMART Translations has all of these, of course.
About CAT Tools
CAT tools are sophisticated database systems built around the core concept of translation memories (TM), a method of capturing, storing and reusing human translations. During interactive translation, these programs compile linguistic databases that store all translated sentences, or segments, with their source language equivalents. When the translators encounter a repeated or similar sentence in the source document, the translation memory proposes previous translations. The translators can then accept, reject or edit these suggestions.
Translation memories are usually connected to client-specific databases of terminology (or "termbases") for active terminology recognition.
Your Benefits
- Translation consistency: single translation for multiple sentence occurrences;
- Accurate and consistent terminology: achieved with extensive databases of terminology and concordance search in the TM;
- Reduction of time: translators only have to translate the same or similar sentence a single time;
- Reduction of costs: exact and fuzzy matches are charged with considerable discounts (by as much as 85%).
